What did you buy in 1985 if you were tired of the obligatory Mercedes S class and Jaguar limousines?
Citroën offered an alternative: the CX 25 GTI Prestige! Designed by master-designer Robert Opron. Seriously fast (200 km/hour!), extended by 30 centimeters and (in this phase 2) also with a raised roof and automatic air conditioning. All this of course with the unsurpassed hydropeumatic suspension system. Invented by Citroen in the late 1950s (Traction Avant and the DS) and used under license by the Rolls Royce motor company, among others.
This example is an original Dutch series 2 (the pahse 2 model update) CX 25 GTI Prestige from October 1985 (will be tax free next month). The combination of the 2.500 GTI engine with the reliable and soft-shifting (German) automatic transmission from ZF makes this the city cruiser par excellence. You just glide through today's traffic. This car recent;y was compared to actress Catharine Deneuve: an older lady who has not lost any of her elegance and strength. Absolutely right! The combination with Tabac Blonde leather (very expensive option), vinyl roof and the metallic color Gris Neptune (darkblue/geen) makes this example certainly unique in the world. This was the top class in limousine transportation. Very rare with only 2.300 Prestiges (series 2) made. There was one exactly similar example: that is the former state limousine of President Chirac of France!

TRUE SURVIVOR - well maintained Dutch original
The history of this example is largely known and can be fully traced back to the (NAP) original kilometer administration. This CX drove around in the Bergen and Alkmaar area in the Netherlands from 1985 throughout the 1990s. The CX was then stored dry for approximately 10 years. The previous owner was a Citroen mechanic who, in addition to the restoration of a Citroen DS convertible, meticulously technically restored this example and brought it back to life. A rolling project and mainly used in the summer months.

Since 2021, the technology was assessed and improved at Citroen specialist Renard Automobiles in Beneden Leeuwen (NL). Everything (and I mean everything) works. The CX is and has always been rust-free. The bodywork was nevertheless extensively overhauled in 2023 by top restorer Classic Job in Dalfsen (NL). This included the vinyl roof, hood and front fenders. The original interior was cleaned and maintained by CJ interiors in Culemborg (NL). Only the leather of the driver's backrest was replaced (due to entry wear). The original leather has remained supple and completely undamaged in the moderate Dutch climate. This year the exhaust pipe and the aircopump were renewed by David Overberg from Doro in Utrecht.

Good preventive maintenance is essential for the Citroen CX. Therefore the entire ignition has been replaced, all wiring has been checked and the (previously renewed) hydropneumatic suspension system has been checked. The engine is still in perfect health with a respectable 330,000 km (in 40 years). No oil consumption, no noises and rattling. Very engine performs smooth with a lot’s of power. Lots of sympathy when I drive it. Thumbs up and a lot of memories by people who walk around it.

What you see is what you get: an elegant and reliable traveling companion with some patine and signs of aging. I offer this beauty as the perfect luxurious summer travel companion (for 5 persons!) and (for calculating owners) a well-yielding financial investment.
